An abandoned residence in the British seaside town of Margate has been provided a reprieve of kinds by an elaborate, ingenious artwork set up conceived by the British designer and artist Alex Chinneck. As portion of an effort to draw focus to the economic woes of the town, Chinneck has designed a optical illusion, entitled From the Knees of My Nose to the Stomach of My Toes, which displays the brick facade of the extended derelict house appearing to slide down the residence’s front and onto the ground. Built with the volunteer help of regional developing staff and engineers, the set up has drawn widespread curiosity to a depressed part of a once prosperous area. Says Chinneck, “I was drawn to Cliftonville since it’s an region exactly where the culture hasn’t reached and I really feel public artwork too generally forgets its duty to the public.”
