“With this pattern i wanted to maintain a hand drawn feeling…a woven illusion,” says Finnish designer Minttu Somervuori, of her arresting, ink-drawn Palmikko material illustration, on show at the Habitare convention center during this 12 months’s Helsinki Layout and design Week. Somervuori—part of the Finnish collective Protoshop, which gives youthful designers with the possibility to exhibit prototypes—has studied each and every furnishings and textile design, and maintains an interest in each time-honored crafts and modern applications. “In my design and style and type operate I select qualities from classic handicraft techniques and mix them with a modern day day approach – this types my own hand print.” A wholly original hand print that, we admit, caught our eyes immediately.
