In creating this barn house, Alchemy Architects have taken their clues from the standard 19th century barn and up to date them to 21st century residing specifications. The outer shell of the barn is quite intriguing. A single feels the urge to go and peep by means of the wooden planks and figure out what hides inside. The outer shell is made of wooden planks that overlap vertically at the degree of the 2nd floor. This shell is interrupted here and there by door and window openings. It is not compact, as there is random-looking spacing amongst the wooden planks that filter the light. The access is done by means of a wooden ramp, which leads to a huge sliding door made of horizontally positioned wooden planks. This mix of horizontal and vertical positioning of the planks gives the spot a poetically shabby look. By sliding the door open you get to a porch that symbolizes the essence of the barn: double height, light and air going by means of the planks and lantern lights hanging from the ceiling. But as quickly as you see what is behind the wooden shell you know you will not uncover cows in there! The inner shell is accessible from the porch by means of large glass doors that lead to the residing area and the open program kitchen. Part of the living room location has double height volume, heated up by a style wood burning stove with tall noticeable chimney. Above the open kitchen, the 2nd floor is closed with ash strips to type a sleeping loft. In order to access this sleeping loft, you first go through a mezzanine paneled in black steel and which serves as library/ home workplace/studying corner. The layout of the within is inspired from that of a hayloft, and provides underneath and over residing spaces. The other bedrooms are placed in the semi-underground reduce floor, whose is hard to guess from the outdoors.
The within volumes are treated differently and in various components. The living space keeps the same double volume height as the porch, while above the kitchen the roof is closed initial half way to form a mezzanine, then fully to enclose a big lofty bedroom.
The stairs foremost below and over are covered in industrial hunting dark steel, like the one utilized for the exterior paneling of the mezzanine.
On the within the mezzanine half walls are lined by bookshelves, looking like a miniature library.
The kitchen and dining location are generous, with plenty of storage and working surface. The wooden furniture seems rustic and contemporary at the same time. This complete floor benefits from a whole lot of normal light brought in via the full length line of windows.
This stunning wooden porch takes you proper into the atmosphere of the 19th century barn!
