Okura House is positioned in North Shore, Auckland, New Zealand, and was developed by Bossley Architects.

“Designed for a sensitive ridge in rolling countryside, this residence was depressed 3 metres into the recent ridgeline to minimise influence on the sea views from the neighbouring web sites.

Two separate buildings, linked by screens and light-weight roof, define the entry and pool area and assist minimise the total visual bulk. The major living wing has a central segment of concrete walls and earth roof to replicate the original ridge when viewed from afar. From this ‘grounded’ element radiate the floating roof in excess of the living areas, and a separate bedroom wing which cantilevers significantly more than the falling land.”
