‘Vik’ lounge chair by Arian Brekveld for Spectrum
An anonymous vintage armchair observed at a relative’s house and car seating inspired Arian Brekveld in the style of his ‘Vik’ lounge chair for the Netherlands’ Spectrum Meubelen.

“Car seats are constantly comfortable. They are superbly made, the materials are employed in a clever way and, despite the fact that they are tiny, they give a great deal of comfort!” says Brekveld. “I needed to translate people characteristics in my style.”

Incorporating and subtracting inches, Brekveld kept experimenting with the Vik armchair’s design and style till he realized the optimum amount of comfort. The armchair has a minimal seat, carried by a light pipe frame. A clearly visible development and sophisticated contours designed by the unbroken lines delivers the chair its dynamic high quality. Comfy back supports recall those of vehicle seats and also decide the 3-dimensional shape of the seat, which is made of foam and hand-crafted in several layers.
